Q. Why should I use HiFX rather than my bank?
A. Essentially there are four reasons why you should use a currency specialist like HiFX rather than your bank:
You’ll save money by getting a better exchange rate. As a money transfer specialist all we do is Foreign Exchange. This means we can maintain lower overheads in our business which ensures our clients get exceptional rates when transferring their money no matter what the amount.
HiFX will transfer your money abroad completely free of charge. IIf you use your bank you'll be subject to a number of additional bank charges which include commission fees (up to another 2% of the amount you are transferring)and transfer charges (usually $25 for each and every transfer)
Unlike your bank, for amounts of $50,000 and above, HiFX will allow you to fix a favourable exchange rate for up to 6 months protecting your money from adverse currency movements.
Service – for many people transferring money overseas is not something they do everyday. HiFX will provide you with all the help and expert advice you need in a simple straightforward way.

Put simply – don't let the banks cash in! Shop around and compare the rates given by your bank with an established currency broker.
Q. Is my money safe with HiFX?
A. HiFX Australia Pty Limited is regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, AFS Licence No. 240917.

Security of Funds
All funds received by HiFX from Clients and Hedge Counterparties or which are paid by HiFX to Clients and Hedge Counterparties (including Sold Currency, Bought Currency and Margins) will be received into and paid out of our segregated Security Trust Accounts. HiFX considers client protection to be of paramount importance and our treatment of monies received from clients provides significantly more protection than others provide. HiFX has granted for the benefit of its clients a registered first ranking security (held by an independent Trustee) over: (a) the Security Trust Accounts; and (b) HiFX’s rights under its Hedge Contracts, (including in respect of payments by way of security or collateral as support for HiFX's obligations under its Hedge Contracts)

Q. How much does it cost to use HiFX?
A. On transactions above those outlined in our fee structure we don’t charge you to send your international money transfers and do not charge any commission. Fees will apply on smaller transactions and are displayed separately on all quotes and deals you undertake with HiFX. We believe in fairness and transparency so you save money. Please note:
  • This does not include the cost of you transferring funds to HiFX, any fees charged by your bank to receive your purchased currency, or any charges incurred where the funds being sent are in a different currency than the destination bank account
  • As part of the service, HiFX provides one free transfer per trade (over the defined threshold limits) . If you would like to send multiple transfers as part of a single trade, these will be charged at $15.
  • Q. How is my exchange rate calculated?
    A. This depends on a number of factors:
    • The amount you’re transferring.

    • The currency you’re buying.

    • The exchange rates at the time of purchase.
    Q. How does HiFX make money?
    A. Like your high street bank we make our money in the difference between our buy and sell prices i.e the spread.

    Unlike your bank, we don’t load on extra charges. We also have much lower overheads and buy huge volumes of currency each year, so we can pass extra savings on to you.
    Q. How and why should I sign up?
    A.

    Opening a HiFX foreign exchange account is quick and easy. Registration is free. There’s no obligation to trade, but you can access the HiFX Online service or call us for help and guidance. We’ll also give you all the right tools and information you’ll need to keep in touch with exchange rate movements. When you sign up we’ll give you a Client Number and you’ll be asked to create your own username and password to access our online services. Keep this information safe – you’ll need it every time you log in.

    Q. How much can I transfer using HiFX?
    A.

    For transactions over $30,000  you can call your personal dealer. Online, you can transfer between $50 and $350,000 to a limit of $350,000 each day.

    I live outside of Australia. Can I use your service?

    A.

    Yes, but due to the high levels of security we have in place to protect our customers, we are unable to automatically verify overseas addresses and identities. We will need scanned copies of your ‘Proof of Address’ and ‘Proof of Identity’. Depending on your country of residence, we may then post you an ‘Activation Code’ that you must confirm you have received.

    Q. What types of transactions can I undertake?
    A.

    You can complete both Spot (buy now, pay now) and Forward (buy now, pay later) transactions online. The minimum Forward transaction online is AUD1000 (or currency equivalent). You can fix the rate up to 90 days into the future. For Forward transactions over $10,000 where you want to fix the exchange rate for up to 6 months please call our Customer Services Team on +61 2 8270 4500. They will discuss your requirements and explain the best options depending on your individual circumstances.

    Q. What payment methods can I use?

    We accept payments via electronic transfer only.

    Q. Are my details protected?
    A. Our online services are fully encrypted using the highest form of security certificates provided by VeriSign. (See also: Is my money safe with HiFX? for more details.)
